De Algemene Verwarring #50 - 22 May 2021
The fiftieth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Saturday May 22 2021, and you can listen to it by clicking on the Mixcloud widget below. And if that does not work, here’s the direct link to the Mixcloud page:
https://www.mixcloud.com/MedialabKortrijk/radio-sinksen-de-algemene-verwarring-50-zaterdag-22-mei-22u-00u
De Algemene Verwarring #50 was actually live on Sinksen Radio by Quindo on Saturday evening from 10pm to 00pm. It was part of the Sinksen Radio: Quindo had the possibility to broadcast on 92.2FM radio as part if the Sinksen Fest in hometown Kortrijk, a three day festival that due to to usual reasons wasn’t a real fest like it used to be. Anyway, I was part of this and it was episode 50, so this is a two hour long party edition, it’s music to dance to and there’s nothing else spectacular about it. No 17 minutes noise tracks and I’m not even talking a lot so there’s really nothing but advantages about this episode.
Pictured below are Ramones, the best punk band in the world. And that is all I have to say about it. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!

“For her mehendi, Anushka wanted a boho look full of bright colours. Hot pink was her favourite. We created a graphic lehenga in fuchsia pink and Indian orange. It was hand-printed by the famed Calcutta block printers and hand-embroidered with gota and marori. Artists from The Sabyasachi Art Foundation rendered a beautiful sixties pop print and it was silk screen printed, hand woven Indian silk. Anushka accessorised herself with earrings from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry collection, a stunning pair of jhumkas crafted in 22k gold with Iranian turquoise, tourmalines, uncut diamonds and Japanese cultured pearls. Custom juttis in hand woven brocade and zardosi completed the look.” - Sabyasachi Mukherjee

5 Things to Know About Sabyasachi, the Indian Designer Behind the Latest H&M Collab
After recent collaborations with Italian couturier Giambattista Valli, Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz, and Canada-born, England-based designer Erdem Moralioglu, H&M has announced a new first: a collaboration with an Indian designer.
16 years after the inaugural high fashion team-up with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004, the Swedish brand has tapped one of India’s most prominent and successful designers, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, for a first-of-its-kind project.
“I am happy to announce the collaboration with H&M as it allows us the opportunity to share the Sabyasachi aesthetic to a wider audience in India and worldwide,” the designer told Vogue India. “Having done couture for the majority of my career, it is very exciting to bring that finesse and craft to ‘ready-to-wear’ and to create whimsical and fluid silhouettes that bring relaxed sophistication to everyday life.”

His collection for H&M includes printed dresses, blouses and saris, and will be available in-store and online globally on April 16. 1. He is Bollywood’s most in-demand designer Mukherjee, who is based in Kolkata, West Bengal (a state in Western India), recently celebrated 20 years in the fashion industry. Over the course of two decades, he has dressed some of Bollywood’s biggest superstars for everything from red carpet appearances to film shoots to personal engagements, and has also designed costumes for several Hindi films. As one of the most prominent weddingwear designers in the country, he’s also the couturier of choice for many high-profile Indian weddings. In 2018, he designed both Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s outfits for their Hindu wedding ceremony, and has also created the wedding ensembles for other Bollywood A-listers such as Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma.

Priyanka Chopra @priyankachopra makes for a stunning bride in a custom red Sabyasachi lehenga. Hand-embroidered and hand-cut organza flowers, French knots in silk floss, delicate Siam-red crystals and layer upon layer of threadwork embroidery creates this piece of impossible couture. 110 embroiderers from Calcutta, India took 3720 hours to create this modern masterpiece. As an ode to the resplendence of Mughal jewellery, her wedding jewellery was crafted with uncut diamonds, emeralds and Japanese cultured pearls in 22 karat gold and had delicate tiny stars in uncut diamonds to give a sense of whimsy to an important traditional piece. Nick Jonas @nickjonas wears a hand-quilted silk sherwani with a hand-embroidered chikan dupatta and a chanderi tissue safa. His rose cut kalgi and Syndicate diamond necklace are from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry collection. @sabyasachijewelry Image Courtesy: People Magazine (c) Purple Pebble America, LLC and NJJ Entertainment, LLC 2018. @people Photography by @josevilla / @gettyimages Priyanka’s shoes by Sabyasachi Accessories @sabyasachiaccessories Nick’s shoes by Christian Louboutin @louboutinworld Wardrobe @stylebyami Makeup: @mickeycontractor Hair: @hairbypriyanka Wedding Design: Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla @abujanisandeepkhosla Venue: Umaid Bhawan Palace @umaidbhawanpalace #Sabyasachi #PriyankaChopra #NickJonas #Nickyanka #ChristianLouboutin #BridesOfSabyasachi #GroomsOfSabyasachi #SabyasachiBride #SabyasachiGroom #DestinationWedding #SabyasachiJewelry #SabyasachiAccessories #TheWorldOfSabyasachi @bridesofsabyasachi @groomsofsabyasachi

Culture Of India - To See And Experience In India
Find all the culture of India through our travel guide India. Information on monuments in India, places not to be missed, to visit during your trip to India from Mexico. Do not miss your trip to India with our cultural guide to India. India is distinguished from other destinations by its incredible cultural treasure, which comes in part from its rich historical past. India has long been regarded as a land with an impressive cultural heritage and a colorful and flourishing folk culture. For years this country has experienced leaders from other countries like the Rajputs, the Mughals, the British and the Portuguese. In addition, many religions have marked the times like Buddhism, Jainism ... So all these riches have had a strong impact on the culture of India. Through its past, its dances, its architecture, its festivities, its languages, its beliefs, its customs and its styles of life, India is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich countries in the world.
Indian Music
The origin of Indian music is found in the beliefs of its inhabitants. According to Indian mythology, it is through music that Brahma created the universe. Note that Indian music is not written. In the past, it had to be passed on to the disciples and kept in the memory. Indian classical music is therefore largely based on improvisation around the musical scheme.
Indian Dance
The country of spices has many dances related to religion and in accordance with the music of the country. There are different schools for each regional style. Indeed, we can cite the Kerala Kathakali which mixes theater, dance and music to tell the great episodes of mythology. The forms of dance are diverse: the dances of temples such as Bharatnatyam, Odissi, and Mohiniyattam symbolize the victory of good over evil. Kathak and Kuchipudi represent religious and mythological tales with the accompaniment of music, mime and dance. Finally, the Manipuri and the Dandiya Raas content the love story of Radha and Krishna (a couple that embodies love, passion and dedication).
Indian Customs And Beliefs
India also has many customs according to the religions in which one finds oneself. Among the most famous Hindu customs, one can highlight: vegetarianism for the sake of respect for all forms of life and the crucial importance of marriage which is one of the first causes of family debt. Some habits and customs are to be taken into account when traveling in India. For example, the use of the left hand is exclusively reserved for impure tasks. Finally, in Sikhism the classes are abolished, the consumption of meat is permitted, but not that of tobacco. Sikhs are supposed to carry the 5 K's: uncut hair and beards, a comb, loose pants, a steel bracelet and a sword.
Museums And Sights
Delhi, the capital will show you the various treasures that the country has with its many museums, delicious restaurants, sumptuous monuments and cultural events. The city is divided into two parts: Old Delhi and New Delhi. You will find the New Delhi Bazaars between Jama Masjid Mosque and Chandni Chowk Avenue. You will not find anywhere else like that between shouting salespeople, chatting customers and rickshaw picking their way through this huge crowd. Even if the city has a bad reputation because of its overpopulation, spend a day there to discover its countless monuments, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Humayun Tomb. Do not miss the visit of the red fort, the emblem of the capital. The Jama Masjid Mosque is a monument not to be missed in your visit to the capital. She is the perfect example of the cultural and religious mix of Delhi. The highlight of your visit to the country is of course the city of Agra, located 2 hours by train from Delhi, it is the cradle where the Taj Mahal rests. Emperor Shah Jahan had built this house to the glory of his deceased wife. In Goa, you can bask in its seaside resorts with coconut palms, beaches and tropical atmosphere, while enjoying a visit to religious sites like the caves of Ellora. For an Indian movie, head to Mumbai, the film capital of the country. South India is full of unforgettable landscapes as in Kerala, where you can admire its endless beaches and its thousand and one night palace. Despite its traffic jams, constant din and pollution, Bombay will satisfy you for its many bazaars, trendy shops, trendy establishments and numerous remains.
Sports And Recreation In India
In India the national sport is field hockey even though cricket is a passion sport in the country. India's reputation in cricket is well established and some players like Sachin Tendulkar are considered stars. The matches are watched by the entire population. Football is also very popular in the north-east of the country and especially in Calcutta. Since 1996, the country has its own national football championship. Other traditional sports in India include Gilli-Danda, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi, popular throughout the country. All this without forgetting the ancient martial art of Kalarippayat and yoga. Yoga, a true symbol of India. Yoga is a discipline aimed, through meditation, moral asceticism and physical exercises, to achieve the unification of the human being in its physical, psychic and spiritual aspects. There is not a yoga but yoga’s. The term yoga means union of body and mind through breathing. We combine physical and respiratory exercises. Among the most famous postures we can mention the posture on the head, the lotus and the salute to the sun. It allows one to find oneself and to obtain a spiritual ascent. To experience all the cultures of India yes, it’s possible if you choose the best delhi agra rajasthan tour package, where you can explore the whole culture in one trip to India. The lehenga was infuschia pink, and the graphic designs in Indian orangewere hand printed by the famous block printers from Calcutta and hand-embroidered with more and gota. The silkblouse was a hand-woven screen printed one;accessories included a stunning pair of 22k gold jhumkas from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery Collection.

To have that complete bridal feeling, Anushka wore a bright red Sabyasachi creation on the reception night. She went for the stunning red Benarasi saree with gold details all over giving a truly traditional look. The outfit was teamed with uncut diamond choker and jhumkas and a red bindi, a generous streak of sindoor in the parting of her hair and flowers on the bun.

Beyond haute couture, Sabyasachi launches jewellery collection, and it’s spellbinding
The beautiful ‘Sabyasachi Fine and Heritage Jewelry’ is an ode to the beauties of the ’20s and the exquisite collection of the designer’s grandmother’s jewellery. Related News

The way you sell an outfit is as important as what you sell: Sabyasachi Mukherjee
When it comes to opulence in the Indian fashion industry, there is no acing Sabyasachi Mukherjee. With his sheer love for traditional Indian designs, the designer has always tried to imbibe its rich heritage in all his collection. But that doesn’t mean his art is restricted to just ethnic fashion. When he launched the Firdaus collection in collaboration with famous French designer Christian Louboutin, we were stunned by the fusion between the two styles. Now, moving beyond garments, the celebrated designer from Kolkata launched his first-ever jewellery collection and it’s jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Like his earlier Spring Couture ’17 collection, his new Autumn-Winter 2017 Couture & Jewelery Collection too was launched on Instagram. And since its launch over the weekend, people have not been able to stop double tapping it. We bet you won’t be able to either. The ‘worst’ part, we can’t decide which is better — the magnificence of his crafted jewellery, or finesse of his haute couture ensembles.
Though previously he has collaborated with Forevermark for a line of rings and earrings called Zanyah, this is his own collection. And if you are an ardent fan of his signature jewellery from ‘Kishandas For Sabyasachi’, then be prepared to be blown away.
The beautiful ‘Sabyasachi Fine and Heritage Jewelry’ is an ode to an erstwhile era, as the designer reminisces the beauties of the ’20s and the exquisite collection of his grandmother’s jewellery. “The twenties have been my biggest inspiration. What a period, what women! Frida Kahlo, Amrita Sher-Gil, Édith Piaf, Devika Rani. I cannot stray too far away from what they represented aesthetically,” writes the designer, introducing his collection.
With his childhood memories in Kolkata and sentimental about pairing the right accessories for his brides, he has treated us to six different lines. The Rani Sahib’s Diamond, Gulkhand, Couture Bridal, Devi, the Heritage and Baroda collection.
“Growing up, I spent hours rummaging through my mother and grand-mothers’ jewelry cupboards. Their taste was simply exquisite. Maybe this is why I feel disappointed. Where has all the art gone? Perhaps it was this question that pushed me to find the answer,” Sabyasachi wrote, as he unveiled his extravagant collection.
And likewise, his every collection is soaked in nostalgia, bringing back the lost glory and opulence of yore. “Afternoon teas in Calcutta Club were all about ladies in organza and chiffon saris, coiffured hair, lacquered nails and rose-gold goggles. The red Chanel mouth and the dripping diamonds added to the decadence,” he wrote, explaining his vision for the entire project.
Shot at the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, the elegant home of Maharani Gayatri Devi, again one of his inspiration, the collection is handcrafted with uncut diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls — it is classy and sophisticated. It also brings back the lost artworks and designing brilliance. “Indian jewellery is beautiful, arrogant and strong and very individualistic. It’s my mission to bring it all back, in all its former glory. And I will not rest till it’s done,” the design maven said.
From the traditional temple jewellery to intricate Polki jewellery and statement Victorian diamonds, take your pick. And it’s not just for women. Of course, like his sherwanis and bandhgala suits, he’s got a plethora of options for the men too.

In which a conversation takes place which seems likely to cost Phileas Fogg dear
Phileas Fogg, having shut the door of his house at half-past eleven, and having put his right foot before his left five hundred and seventy-five times, and his left foot before his right five hundred and seventy-six times, reached the Reform Club, an imposing edifice in Pall Mall, which could not have cost less than three millions. He repaired at once to the dining-room, the nine windows of which open upon a tasteful garden, where the trees were already gilded with an autumn colouring; and took his place at the habitual table, the cover of which had already been laid for him. His breakfast consisted of a side-dish, a broiled fish with Reading sauce, a scarlet slice of roast beef garnished with mushrooms, a rhubarb and gooseberry tart, and a morsel of Cheshire cheese, the whole being washed down with several cups of tea, for which the Reform is famous. He rose at thirteen minutes to one, and directed his steps towards the large hall, a sumptuous apartment adorned with lavishly-framed paintings. A flunkey handed him an uncut Times, which he proceeded to cut with a skill which betrayed familiarity with this delicate operation. The perusal of this paper absorbed Phileas Fogg until a quarter before four, whilst the Standard, his next task, occupied him till the dinner hour. Dinner passed as breakfast had done, and Mr. Fogg re-appeared in the reading-room and sat down to the Pall Mall at twenty minutes before six. Half an hour later several members of the Reform came in and drew up to the fireplace, where a coal fire was steadily burning. They were Mr. Fogg's usual partners at whist: Andrew Stuart, an engineer; John Sullivan and Samuel Fallentin, bankers; Thomas Flanagan, a brewer; and Gauthier Ralph, one of the Directors of the Bank of England-- all rich and highly respectable personages, even in a club which comprises the princes of English trade and finance.
"Well, Ralph," said Thomas Flanagan, "what about that robbery?"
"Oh," replied Stuart, "the Bank will lose the money."
"On the contrary," broke in Ralph, "I hope we may put our hands on the robber. Skilful detectives have been sent to all the principal ports of America and the Continent, and he'll be a clever fellow if he slips through their fingers."
"But have you got the robber's description?" asked Stuart.
"In the first place, he is no robber at all," returned Ralph, positively.
"What! a fellow who makes off with fifty-five thousand pounds, no robber?"
"No."
"Perhaps he's a manufacturer, then."
"The Daily Telegraph says that he is a gentleman."
It was Phileas Fogg, whose head now emerged from behind his newspapers, who made this remark. He bowed to his friends, and entered into the conversation. The affair which formed its subject, and which was town talk, had occurred three days before at the Bank of England. A package of banknotes, to the value of fifty-five thousand pounds, had been taken from the principal cashier's table, that functionary being at the moment engaged in registering the receipt of three shillings and sixpence. Of course, he could not have his eyes everywhere. Let it be observed that the Bank of England reposes a touching confidence in the honesty of the public. There are neither guards nor gratings to protect its treasures; gold, silver, banknotes are freely exposed, at the mercy of the first comer. A keen observer of English customs relates that, being in one of the rooms of the Bank one day, he had the curiosity to examine a gold ingot weighing some seven or eight pounds. He took it up, scrutinised it, passed it to his neighbour, he to the next man, and so on until the ingot, going from hand to hand, was transferred to the end of a dark entry; nor did it return to its place for half an hour. Meanwhile, the cashier had not so much as raised his head. But in the present instance things had not gone so smoothly. The package of notes not being found when five o'clock sounded from the ponderous clock in the "drawing office," the amount was passed to the account of profit and loss. As soon as the robbery was discovered, picked detectives hastened off to Liverpool, Glasgow, Havre, Suez, Brindisi, New York, and other ports, inspired by the proffered reward of two thousand pounds, and five per cent. on the sum that might be recovered. Detectives were also charged with narrowly watching those who arrived at or left London by rail, and a judicial examination was at once entered upon.
There were real grounds for supposing, as the Daily Telegraph said, that the thief did not belong to a professional band. On the day of the robbery a well-dressed gentleman of polished manners, and with a well-to-do air, had been observed going to and fro in the paying room where the crime was committed. A description of him was easily procured and sent to the detectives; and some hopeful spirits, of whom Ralph was one, did not despair of his apprehension. The papers and clubs were full of the affair, and everywhere people were discussing the probabilities of a successful pursuit; and the Reform Club was especially agitated, several of its members being Bank officials.
Ralph would not concede that the work of the detectives was likely to be in vain, for he thought that the prize offered would greatly stimulate their zeal and activity. But Stuart was far from sharing this confidence; and, as they placed themselves at the whist-table, they continued to argue the matter. Stuart and Flanagan played together, while Phileas Fogg had Fallentin for his partner. As the game proceeded the conversation ceased, excepting between the rubbers, when it revived again.
"I maintain," said Stuart, "that the chances are in favour of the thief, who must be a shrewd fellow."
"Well, but where can he fly to?" asked Ralph. "No country is safe for him."
"Pshaw!"
"Where could he go, then?"
"Oh, I don't know that. The world is big enough."
"It was once," said Phileas Fogg, in a low tone. "Cut, sir," he added, handing the cards to Thomas Flanagan.
The discussion fell during the rubber, after which Stuart took up its thread.
"What do you mean by `once'? Has the world grown smaller?"
"Certainly," returned Ralph. "I agree with Mr. Fogg. The world has grown smaller, since a man can now go round it ten times more quickly than a hundred years ago. And that is why the search for this thief will be more likely to succeed."
"And also why the thief can get away more easily."
"Be so good as to play, Mr. Stuart," said Phileas Fogg.
But the incredulous Stuart was not convinced, and when the hand was finished, said eagerly: "You have a strange way, Ralph, of proving that the world has grown smaller. So, because you can go round it in three months--"
"In eighty days," interrupted Phileas Fogg.
"That is true, gentlemen," added John Sullivan. "Only eighty days, now that the section between Rothal and Allahabad, on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway, has been opened. Here is the estimate made by the Daily Telegraph:
From London to Suez via Mont Cenis and Brindisi, by rail and steamboats ................. 7 days From Suez to Bombay, by steamer .................... 13 " From Bombay to Calcutta, by rail ................... 3 " From Calcutta to Hong Kong, by steamer ............. 13 " From Hong Kong to Yokohama (Japan), by steamer ..... 6 " From Yokohama to San Francisco, by steamer ......... 22 " From San Francisco to New York, by rail ............. 7 " From New York to London, by steamer and rail ........ 9 " ---- Total ............................................ 80 days."
"Yes, in eighty days!" exclaimed Stuart, who in his excitement made a false deal. "But that doesn't take into account bad weather, contrary winds, shipwrecks, railway accidents, and so on."
"All included," returned Phileas Fogg, continuing to play despite the discussion.
"But suppose the Hindoos or Indians pull up the rails," replied Stuart; "suppose they stop the trains, pillage the luggage-vans, and scalp the passengers!"
"All included," calmly retorted Fogg; adding, as he threw down the cards, "Two trumps."
Stuart, whose turn it was to deal, gathered them up, and went on: "You are right, theoretically, Mr. Fogg, but practically--"
"Practically also, Mr. Stuart."
"I'd like to see you do it in eighty days."
"It depends on you. Shall we go?"
"Heaven preserve me! But I would wager four thousand pounds that such a journey, made under these conditions, is impossible."
"Quite possible, on the contrary," returned Mr. Fogg.
"Well, make it, then!"
"The journey round the world in eighty days?"
"Yes."
"I should like nothing better."
"When?"
"At once. Only I warn you that I shall do it at your expense."
"It's absurd!" cried Stuart, who was beginning to be annoyed at the persistency of his friend. "Come, let's go on with the game."
"Deal over again, then," said Phileas Fogg. "There's a false deal."
Stuart took up the pack with a feverish hand; then suddenly put them down again.
"Well, Mr. Fogg," said he, "it shall be so: I will wager the four thousand on it."
"Calm yourself, my dear Stuart," said Fallentin. "It's only a joke."
"When I say I'll wager," returned Stuart, "I mean it." "All right," said Mr. Fogg; and, turning to the others, he continued: "I have a deposit of twenty thousand at Baring's which I will willingly risk upon it."
"Twenty thousand pounds!" cried Sullivan. "Twenty thousand pounds, which you would lose by a single accidental delay!"
"The unforeseen does not exist," quietly replied Phileas Fogg.
"But, Mr. Fogg, eighty days are only the estimate of the least possible time in which the journey can be made."
"A well-used minimum suffices for everything."
"But, in order not to exceed it, you must jump mathematically from the trains upon the steamers, and from the steamers upon the trains again."
"I will jump--mathematically."
"You are joking."
"A true Englishman doesn't joke when he is talking about so serious a thing as a wager," replied Phileas Fogg, solemnly. "I will bet twenty thousand pounds against anyone who wishes that I will make the tour of the world in eighty days or less; in nineteen hundred and twenty hours, or a hundred and fifteen thousand two hundred minutes. Do you accept?"
"We accept," replied Messrs. Stuart, Fallentin, Sullivan, Flanagan, and Ralph, after consulting each other.
"Good," said Mr. Fogg. "The train leaves for Dover at a quarter before nine. I will take it."
"This very evening?" asked Stuart.
"This very evening," returned Phileas Fogg. He took out and consulted a pocket almanac, and added, "As today is Wednesday, the 2nd of October, I shall be due in London in this very room of the Reform Club, on Saturday, the 21st of December, at a quarter before nine p.m.; or else the twenty thousand pounds, now deposited in my name at Baring's, will belong to you, in fact and in right, gentlemen. Here is a cheque for the amount."
A memorandum of the wager was at once drawn up and signed by the six parties, during which Phileas Fogg preserved a stoical composure. He certainly did not bet to win, and had only staked the twenty thousand pounds, half of his fortune, because he foresaw that he might have to expend the other half to carry out this difficult, not to say unattainable, project. As for his antagonists, they seemed much agitated; not so much by the value of their stake, as because they had some scruples about betting under conditions so difficult to their friend.
The clock struck seven, and the party offered to suspend the game so that Mr. Fogg might make his preparations for departure.
"I am quite ready now," was his tranquil response. "Diamonds are trumps: be so good as to play, gentlemen."
